Get Out of Bed!

Hard truth: You have the time. But you’re probably asleep.

My favorite part of the whole day is the time between 5 and 7 am. It’s peaceful. I get a cup of coffee, usually chat with my R+F sponsor Melissa Macuci Griffin who is also an early riser, and get it done. What do I get done? My day. My business. My life. Pilates. Whatever. Whether I’m talking to people about meal planning, exercise, R+F, law school, etc etc, I usually hear “I wish I had the time.” My secret, my success, is not really a secret at all. It is used by a great number of successful women (and men) to be more productive. Studies show that early risers are more productive, proactive, less likely to be depressed, get better grades, are healthier, and are more successful. I could talk about this for days.

I used to stay up late. What was I doing? Nothing. Not a damn thing. Watching TV. Mindlessly eating. Drinking wine. Buying a ton of crap on Amazon Prime. Gaining weight. NOTHING. Instead of doing those things, I GO TO BED. I’m usually in bed between 9:00 and 10:00. And then I’m getting plenty of sleep for my 5 AM wake up call.

Rachel Hollis will tell you, “You have time. You just spend it doing something else.” Sure, I like to sleep. But I like being successful more. Whether that was in law school, now in my weight loss journey, or in my R+F business. And that’s why I get my ass out of bed. I often think of who is up at this hour. The answer is a million other successful people in the world. I like being a part of their club.
